  11.    What is ConfUMS?
  12.  
  13.    If you ever wanted to modify a variable of the `ums.config' while
  14. another UMS-application was running, you would have noticed, that after
  15. having edited the `ums.config' with an editor, UMS wanted to restart the
  16. server. Hmm, what to do? Wait for the other program(s) to finish? Or
  17. stop them by quitting the server? Wait for UMSServer v11? Well, one
  18. solution's already there: ConfUMS!
  19.  
  20.    ConfUMS uses the internal functions of the ums.library for editing
  21. the `ums.config' - by doing so, the server doesn't have to be restarted
  22. after changes to the `ums.config'. ConfUMS lets you edit the vars via a
  23. singleline-, multiline- or listkind-editor in a comfortable and
  24. intuitive MUI-Environment.
  25.  
  26.    ConfUMS also distinguishes users who have sysop-status and "normal"
  27. UMS-users, letting sysops change the whole config while "normal" users
  28. may only access their own local settings (see also *Note Security::).

  30.    With UMS-Server v10.33 or lower, editing facilities are limited to
  31. uservars only (those containing a period '.' in their name). But with
  32. version 11 of the server you will be able to change *everything* in
  33. your config without restarting the server.
  34.  
  35.    *BUT!* Development of Server v11 has been postponed until august
  36. '94, because the author, Martin Horneffer, stays in Norway doing some
  37. studies. So please be patient!
  38.  
  39.    Once v11 is available I will add some more features to ConfUMS, i.e.
  40. adding and deleting users, netgroups, aliases etc. But again: please be
  41. patient and wait for the new server!
